Spang’s ITALIAN Restaurant located in St. Germain, Wisconsin, opened for business in 1972 when Ed “Spang” and Ruth “Rosie” Reid moved with their 5 children from Evergreen Park, Illinois to the Northwoods.

The Reid’s had vacationed in St. Germain for many years prior to the move and fell in love with the area. On one of those trips the Reid’s purchased the restaurant, which at one time was a tavern called “The Hearth.” About the only thing that remains original to the building today is the bar’s fieldstone fireplace.

After many months of building, remodeling, scrubbing, and cleaning the restaurant was ready to open in June of 1972. It is still operated by the family to this day.

In 1988, Spang and Rosie sold the restaurant to their son Joe. The entire extended family, along with many loyal and dedicated employees, makeup the staff at the restaurant.

The family is also very active in the community and has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for various non-profit organizations through their benefit spaghetti and pizza dinners.

On behalf of the Reid family, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers, friends and employees for their help, support, and patronage over these many years. We hope to be able to serve you and your family for many years to come and also hope you will visit Spang’s again very soon.
